Lakeside Residence
The project site is a rectangular, lakeside lot in Southern California. Travertine, grey Equitone fiber cement panels and white stucco combine to give the home a string presence from the street. The travertine and olive trees were selected because they reminded one of our clients of his birthplace. The entry sequence begins through a perforated custom metal gate which leads to a path lined with Podocarpus and eventually to the blue, custom glass and steel perforated front door. A fountain opposite the front door provides aural separation between the neighborhood and site. The travertine façade wraps into the entry and up the stair walls where a large roof monitor provides light to the center of the home. At night, the space is lit by a custom chandelier. The principal suite includes separate sleeping rooms, a large bathroom with separate vanities, a shared balcony and a shared closet with a roof monitor for natural light. Our clients are an empty nest couple downsizing from a larger home in the area. While on most days they are the home’s only occupants, our clients are matriarch and patriarch of their family. It was important that they be able to host their entire extended family for holiday meals. The Great Room and Kitchen open on to the lake. Casa Stilo sized the custom couch and custom dining room table to provide a seat for every member of the extended family. The Great Room and California Room are separated by a two-sided fireplace. Both the Great Room and California Room open on to a large patio with an adjacent outdoor kitchen, spa and firepit. Stairs lead past another olive tree to the dock and lake which is the center of this community.
